Description
Original American Indian War Kepi
- US Army, New York 23rd Regiment Officers Kepi -
THIS IS A NICE INDIAN WAR KEPI- In great period used condition
This is an all Original American Indian War U.S. Army New York 23rd Infantry Regiment Officers (Captain) 1972 Style Kepi. The kepi is in fantastic shape for an Indian War cap. The buttons are New York State Line Buttons from the Civil War period. The leather chinstrap is missing. On the front is the blocked regiment number "23" produced in a metal tin, I have seen this same pattern Kepi (New York 23rd Infantry Regiment 1972 Kepi) before with the same block numbers on it. This U.S. Army Model 1872 Pattern Kepi is in great shape and color. The kepi is dark blue wool with a double row of brass quatrefoil indicating an officer, rank of Captain. Stamped inside the kepi, is the makers mark, "BAKER & McKENNEY" , "GRAND ST. NEW YORK". Baker and McKenney was in business from 1864 - 1872. James McKinney took over the business from Baker in 1872 and started James McKinney & Co, he ran it until the early 1880s. This is made by a well known military goods dealer until the 1880s. This is a spot on Kepi with all the markings need to be sure it's an original period correct cap. The leather band is in great shape for it's age and is still attached to the kepi.
This is a great piece of history. This kepi displays real nice, and will make a great addition to any collection or museum. Add this to your fine collection or museum today.
